The Primatological Society (GfP e.V.)

The Primatological Society of German-Speaking-Primatologists from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and from the Netherlands, was established in 1988 as a nonprofit corporation (e.V.). It consists of about 250 members. The Society belongs to the European Federation of Primatologists, is associated with the International Primatological Society and further, is represented at the German Science Foundation through the German National Comitee for Biology.

 

Objectives and Tasks

  • The promotion of research on primates (field, zoos, laboratories)
  • The protection of all primate species in their home countries
  • The conservation of primates' natural habitats
  • Public relations and consulting
  • Promoting young researchers

 

Regular Activities

The Society organizes a bi-annual international scientific meeting (GfP-conference), periodically publishes a newsletter (Rundbrief) about transactions of the society, and maintains this bi-lingual website.

Furthermore, it offers grants and awards to which junior scientists from all countries can apply for.

  • Awards for the best three oral presentations at the GfP-conference
